Laying technique of VIA cement tiles

Laying cement tiles

Preparing, laying and grouting

If you store the tiles before processing, the space should be dry and clean.

The subsoil of the surfaces to be laid must be of a sufficiently high standard, load-bearing and free of adhesion-reducing substances. Substrate treatment should be carried out according to the data on the VIA tile glue bag.

Preparation

The exact room dimension is checked again and the laying angle is fixed.

The appropriate quantity of glue is applied according to the instructions on the packaging of the VIA tile adhesive. The VIA tile primer binds the residual dust and reduces the absorbency of highly absorbent substrates. In the case of cement screeds, the primer is diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 3, in the case of calcium sulphate submerges it must be applied undiluted.

The Laying

The adhesive is applied to the floor / wall and tile with a 10 tooth trowel. This results in a sufficient adhesive thickness in order to achieve a flat surface without overlap when pressing. It is absolutely necessary to use the buttering-floating method.

Cement mosaic tiles and terrazzo tiles are traditionally laid with as little joint width as possible. This results in the formation of a flat covering and patterning without a disturbing joint raster and the edges protecting each other.

Carefully straighten the plates to avoid overheating. Sections must be dry with a diamond blade. Even miter cuts can be carried out precisely when the cut is dry, so that even clean shocks, e.g. On external edges are possible.

Important is the dry cutting of the plates in order to avoid the absorption of moisture. Cut plates to be cut in the edge area only after the middle pattern has been laid and dry cut.

The freshly laid flooring must not be washed with water, of course.

For the laying of VIA-tiles only the VIA-tileglue has to be used.

Grouting

The grout is made from two parts of trass cement and a part of quartz sand with the addition of water in a yoghurt-like consistency and applied to the broom floor.

Grouting should only be carried out after the tiles have dried, in order that the shrinkage will not cause flank tears.

The grout is pressed into the joints with a grout board. Fill the grout so long that the joint does not fall, That the mortar completely fills the joint.

Please note:

Do not use ready-made grouting compounds that contain a plastic component as they could lead to a graffiti curtain.
