VIA - the path

The combination of tradition and innovation, the love of history and the look ahead form the heart of VIA. We look to the past and to the traditional heritage of cement mosaic tiles with their fascinating patterns and carry them into the present in new colours and modern contexts. The historicist building in Bacharach on the Rhine fits into this philosophy.

FROM THE TAILOR QUARTER IN BARCELONA TO A GEM IN THE MIDDLE RHINE REGION

It is at the end of the 90s when the VIA project in Barcelona gets the decisive impetus to get off the ground. Like a cement mosaic or terrazzo tile, this genesis is a multi-layered work, details that must come together for everything to fit. Crucial components for the family business come together in Barcelona. On the one hand, it' s the fact that the young mechanical engineer and business economist Norbert Kummermehr is looking for a suitable apartment here in 1997 with the carpenter and studied interior designer Almut Lager, and on the other hand, it' s the shared enthusiasm of the two for patterned floor tiles. The two had met a few years earlier at a language course in Madrid: one to learn Spanish for an attractive professional challenge in South America. The other, to work after her studies in Barcelona, where an aunt lives. As different as the motives for the course in Madrid are, the path of Almut Lager and Norbert Kummermehr subsequently develops together into a family and a family project: VIA.
